Things to do in the garden during lockdown day 40: make bean supports

Bean supports, be it a tent or teepee shape are best constructed before the beans are planted out.

I live in a windy area and have found a tent shaped supports sturdier than wigams, but that might be down to my construction abilities. It is always a battle to put them up - trying to fiddle around at height with rather elderly rubber pole connections is a challenge as you can see.

Plant on the inside of the poles so that the stems can grow straight up onto them. I've put wild garlic leaves around the plants to ward off the slugs. Can slugs smell? Perhaps they just taste nasty to one footed molluscs.

My French beans did not germinate well so I am off to trade my excess of other seedlings with neighbours and friends.
