Things to do in the garden during lockdown day 86: pop that colour in damp shade

Smatterings of colour can really brighten a shady corner. Ligularia japonica is a June bloomer and a fan of damp soil.

Hot colours can really bring shaded spots up from being a green oasis to a stunning garden design. Ligularia japonica is an architectural gem of a perennial that can provide a real pop of colour to a damp shady spot. It's well over a metre tall with long lasting deeply divided leaves and bright orange daisy-like flowers which pollinators adore. These are in one of my favourite places, the woodland garden at Cambridge University Botanic Gardens.
