Things to do in the garden during lockdown day 89: go peacock caterpillar spotting

Peacock caterpillars are almost as spectacular as the butterflies themselves. Going peacock caterpillar spotting is easy - just look on the nettles.

Peacock caterpillars predominantly eat common nettles (Urtica dioica) and occasionally small nettles (U. urens) or hops (Humulus lupulus). The young caterpillars live and feed inside a sort of web and venture out as they mature. This one was in the wood at Logan's Meadow Cambridge which is lush with nettles at this time of year.
