Things to do in the garden during lockdown day 93: cut back perennials to encourage more flowers

Cutting back perennials as their flowers fade encourages more and keep the plant blooming all summer.

It's going to be a scorcher so I am running with minimal effort gardening today and zipping round cutting the spent flowers off my Salvia nemorosa 'Caradonna' plants. This is a good solid performer and will keep on flowering right through the summer as long as I keep on top of it. It's a plant that is much loved by honey bees so I leave those influorescences that still have a good length of new flowers going at the top to keep the bees in nectar until the new ones bloom.
